Part Time Officers

Part time officers perform a variety of duties involved in the enforcement of laws and prevention of crimes; duties include providing general courtroom security and coordinating the transfer of inmates from local holding facility to required court appearances, patrolling and monitoring parks, controlling traffic flow and enforcing State and local law and regulations as well as participating in and conducting a variety of criminal investigations. This position provides a high level of customer service and integrates the community into their policing activities, participating in community based police activities and programs and performing a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of law enforcement services and activities.

Reserve Officers

The Sandy Springs Police Department is augmented by a volunteer unit of sworn police officers known as Police Reserves. The SSPD Reserve Unit consists of certified Georgia Law Enforcement Officers. The members of the Unit provide additional staffing at special events, assist with patrol operations and perform other assignments as needed within the Department. Upon successful completion of the SSPD field training program, a reserve officer may report to shift briefing, check out a patrol car, and be assigned to a district in the city to answer calls for a shift. Members of the Reserve Unit are required to contribute a minimum of 10 hours of service per month. Reserve Officers must maintain GA P.O.S.T. Police officer certification as well as Sandy Springs Police department mandated yearly training. The reserve program affords the opportunity for officers to serve the community in a very specialized capacity
