The K-9 Unit is part of the Special Operations Division within the Sandy Springs Police Department. The unit currently has four K-9 teams. The patrol K-9s are Belgian Malinois and assist officers in the apprehension of suspects, lost person location, evidence recovery, narcotics detection, officer and citizen protection, crime prevention, and favorable public relations promotion and deterrence of criminal activity. They also provide high-community visibility to promote a sense of security among the public.
