The Sandy Springs Police Department offers a comprehensive College Internship Program designed to provide hands-on experience in modern law enforcement. Since its inception in 2006, the program has hosted college students for immersive internships ranging from 150 to 450 hours, giving participants meaningful exposure to policing operations.
Program Overview
The SSPD College Internship Program is offered during the spring, summer, and fall semesters, with up to three (3) interns selected per term. This structured program allows students to gain practical insight into the day-to-day responsibilities of law enforcement professionals.
Key Responsibilities & Learning Opportunities
Interns will have the opportunity to:
- Work alongside sworn officers in a variety of specialized units, including:
- Patrol Operations
- Criminal Investigations
- Crime Scene Investigations
- Intel Unit
- Street Crimes
- Narcotics Unit
- Observe and assist with departmental procedures and field operations
- Gain exposure to real-world law enforcement scenarios and decision-making processes
- Participate in Scenario-based simulated firearms training
- Develop a foundational understanding of policing strategies, public safety practices, and community engagement
