Home and Business Security

The Sandy Springs Police Department offers residents and business owners the opportunity to learn more about securing their property with and offer security assessments using the CPTED model.

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) is a multi-disciplinary approach of crime prevention that uses urban and architectural design and the management of built and natural environments. CPTED strategies aim to reduce victimization, deter offender decisions that precede criminal acts, and build a sense of community among inhabitants so they can gain territorial control of areas, reduce crime, and minimize fear of crime. CPTED is pronounced ‘sep-ted’ and it is also known around the world as Designing Out Crime, defensible space, and other similar terms.

These assessments are conducted by highly trained and certified officers and are a free service to our residents and business owners.

To request a free CEPTED assessment at your home or business, please email sspdcommunity@sandyspringsga.gov.

Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events Training

The Sandy Springs Police Department also offers a Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) training class for all businesses, churches, and educational facilities within the City of Sandy Springs.

We are frequently requested by schools, businesses, and community members for direction and presentations on what they should do if confronted with an active shooter event. The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) course, designed and built on the Avoid, Deny Defend (ADD) strategy developed by ALERRT in 2004, provides strategies, guidance and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event. Topics include the history and prevalence of active shooter events, civilian response options, medical issues, and considerations for conducting drills

If you would like to request a C.R.A.S.E. training session for your office or group, please email sspdcommunity@sandyspringsga.gov.
