Currently, the Sandy Springs Police Department takes part in several Federal Investigative Task Forces. An SSPD Detective is assigned to each task force and acts as a liaison between the Federal Agency and SSPD. These partnerships provide SSPD with additional benefits by having access to federal resources, federal prosecution, asset forfeiture sharing, and reimbursement for overtime and investigative expenses. The Federal Agencies that SSPD Detectives are assigned to include the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and the United States Secret Service (USSS).



FBI Atlanta Metropolitan Major Offenders Violent Crime Task Force/Atlanta Safe Streets Gang Task Force


SSPD FBI TFOThis task force identifies and targets for prosecution criminal enterprise groups responsible for drug trafficking, money laundering, alien smuggling, crimes of violence such as murder and aggravated assault, robbery, and violent street gangs, as well as intensely focuses on the apprehension of dangerous fugitives where there is or maybe a federal investigative interest. The task force will enhance the effectiveness of federal/state/local law enforcement resources through a well-coordinated initiative seeking the most effective investigative/prosecutorial avenues by which to convict and incarcerate dangerous offenders.

 



ATF Strategic Atlanta Firearms Enforcement Task Force


SSPD ATF TFOThis task force’s responsibilities include the investigation and prevention of federal offenses involving the unlawful use, manufacture, and possession of firearms and explosives; acts of arson and bombings; and illegal trafficking of alcohol and tobacco products. The ATF also regulates, via licensing, the sale, possession, and transportation of firearms, ammunition, and explosives in interstate commerce.

 

 



DEA Atlanta Strike Force Financial Investigations Team Task Force


SSPD DEA TFOThe task force targets drug trafficking and money laundering organizations (DTO/MLO) in the Metro Atlanta area. Task Force Officers (TFOs) attend collaboration meetings with local, state, and federal agencies to share intelligence, provide input, and strategic logistics to assist and manage operations in the apprehension of felons, which includes drug trafficking, money laundering, and other violent crime suspects. TFOs work closely with the United States Attorney’s Office to prepare and present cases for prosecution in federal court. This bilateral partnership dually benefits Sandy Springs and its citizens in helping to eradicate violent crime.

 



DEA Atlanta Strike Force Group 1 Task Force


SSPD DEA TFOThis task force targets high-level drug cartel organizations in the Metro-Atlanta area by investigating and prosecuting major violators of controlled substance laws operating within the Sandy Springs jurisdiction, other State of Georgia jurisdictions, and international levels. This bilateral partnership dually benefits Sandy Springs and its citizens in helping to eradicate violent crime.

 

 



DEA Atlanta HIDTA Task Force


SSPD DEA TFOThe Atlanta-Carolinas HIDTA Task Force performs the activities and duties that disrupt the illicit drug traffic in the Atlanta area by immobilizing targeted violators and trafficking organizations. Task Force members gather and report intelligence data relating to trafficking in narcotics and dangerous drugs and conduct undercover operations, where appropriate, and engage in other traditional methods of investigation in order that the task force's activities will result in effective prosecution before the courts of the United States and the State of Georgia.

 



HSI Narcotics OCDETF Task Force


SSPD HSI TFOThis task force operates under Homeland Security Investigations and is the principle investigative arm of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, responsible for combating transnational criminal organizations that exploit the global infrastructure through which trade, travel, and finance move.

 

 



USSS Electronic Crimes Task Force


SSPD USSS TFOThis task force is assigned to the Atlanta USSS Field Office and conducts investigations on technology-related crimes. The task force provides skills and assets to SSPD that assists the residents of Sandy Springs with regard to digital forensics investigations.
