The Sandy Springs Police Department’s Patrol Division are the first responders to calls for service within the City. The City of Sandy Springs is divided into nine patrol beats. These beats are patrolled by our officers who become familiar with their areas and the communities they protect. Officers respond to a myriad of calls including vehicle crashes, crimes in progress, traffic complaints, just to name a few. The Patrol Division provides 24-hour coverage patrolling your neighborhoods, business districts, and the interstates. The men and women assigned to the Patrol Division are the backbone of the organization and are always happy to assist our citizens and those visiting the City of Sandy Springs.

The Patrol Division is commanded by Captain Vik. The Captain is supported by four Lieutenants, each of which commands a patrol shift with their two Sergeants and officers.

Vik NCaptain Norm Vik is the Patrol Commander. Captain Vik is a U.S. Army Veteran, where he served as a Military Police Sergeant. Captain Vik came to the Sandy Springs Police Department from the City of Hapeville Police Department in 2007. His assignments have included Uniform/Bike Patrol, S.W.A.T, Field Training, D.U.I. Task Force, Serious Injury/Fatality Investigator, Criminal Investigations, and Community Affairs. He obtained his Master of Science degree in Administration of Justice and Security from the University of Phoenix. He is also a graduate of the Southern Police Institute’s Administrative Officer Course from the University Of Louisville. Additionally, in 2021, Captain Vik was assigned as the North Metro SWAT team Commander.

JohnsonLieutenant Ronald Johnson is currently assigned as the Day A supervisor. He started his police career with the City of Statesboro Police Department. He then worked for the Fulton County Police Department for ten years before joining the Sandy Springs Police Department. His previous assignments include North Metro SWAT, Street Crimes Unit, and as a South District Patrol Sergeant. He is a graduate of Georgia Southern University. He is the lead instructor for the department’s Women Self Defense Class.

RomeroLieutenant David G. Romero is currently Evening A supervisor. Lieutenant Romero began his law enforcement career on March 1, 2000, with the Fulton County Police Department. Lieutenant Romero is one of the original officers that started in July 2006. During his 20-year career, his assignments have included Uniform Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Special Operations. He is currently the Crisis Negotiations Commander for two Crisis Negotiations Teams assigned to the North Metro S.W.A.T. Unit.

McNabbLieutenant James McNabb is currently assigned as the Day B supervisor. He was one of the original 86 officers who started with the Sandy Springs Police Department in July 2006. Lieutenant McNabb began his law enforcement career with the Fulton County Police Department in 1999. His assignments have included Uniform Patrol, SWAT, Street Crimes, Community Relations, and Criminal Investigations. Lieutenant McNabb received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Georgia. Lieutenant McNabb is a recent graduate of the Southern Police Institute's Administrative Officer's Course from the University of Louisville.

McNabbLieutenant Ryan Finley currently assigned as the Evening B supervisor. He began his career in 2002 with the Fulton County Police Department and was a founding member of the Sandy Springs Police Department starting in July 2006. Lieutenant Finley spent nine years in the Criminal Investigation Division as a Detective and Field Training Officer before promoting to Sergeant in 2016. Prior supervisory assignments include the Uniform Patrol Division, Property & Evidence Unit, Staff Inspections Manager (including State Certification/Accreditation), and the Criminal Investigation Division and Crime Scene Investigations. Lieutenant Finley is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts and Science degree in Aerospace Administration. Additionally, he is a graduate of the University of Louisville - Southern Police Institute 146th Administrative Officers Course.
