Kenneth DeSimone

Chief of Police Kenneth DeSimone leads the Sandy Springs Police Department (SSPD), bringing more than 30 years of law enforcement experience to the position. Prior to joining SSPD, Chief DeSimone served with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department in Charlotte, North Carolina. His assignments included uniform patrol, criminal investigations, training, waterborne enforcement, street crimes, the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF), and the organized crime and intelligence unit. He served as Deputy Chief of the SSPD for four years before being promoted to Chief of Police in 2013.
Chief DeSimone retired from the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve in 2014 at the rank of Colonel following 32 years of service, primarily in the Military Police. He is a veteran of both the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, where he led police advisor teams in each country. His military experience includes working alongside law enforcement, provost marshal, intelligence, and gendarmerie forces throughout North America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
Chief DeSimone is the recipient of the FBI Director’s Award for Outstanding Counterterrorism Investigation and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Medal of Valor.
Chief DeSimone holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Police Administration from the University of Louisville and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
