T-Mobile Armed Robbery- Arrest & Investigation 06/17/2020

PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICE

For Immediate Release

SANDY SPRINGS, GEORGIA (June 17, 2020) – Just after 11:30 AM, Sandy Springs Police Officers were dispatched to the T-Mobile store located at 5650 Roswell Rd regarding an armed robbery that had just occurred. A lookout on the suspects was provided and our Officers spotted them driving the getaway vehicle in the area of Mount Vernon Highway and Hammond Drive. As the suspects attempted to make a turn onto Heards Ferry Rd, they crashed with a vehicle that was stopped at the traffic light at that intersection. The suspects sideswiped another vehicle and continued travelling on Mt. Vernon Highway before their vehicle became disabled.

The suspects abandoned their heavily damaged vehicle and fled on foot in different directions towards the neighborhood. An Officer with our Traffic Unit quickly apprehend the first suspect without incident. The second suspect was located hiding behind a home within the River Shore Estates Subdivision and he too was taken into custody without incident.

Robbery Investigation:

 Both suspects entered the T-Mobile store wearing facemasks and displaying handguns. The suspects rounded up the four store employees, taking them to the back of the store and tying them with zip-ties. The suspects stole numerous cellphones from the stores as well as the vehicle keys from one of the employees. One of the suspects attempted to steal the employee’s vehicle, but left it running in the parking lot for unknown reasons. Both suspects then fled the scene in their getaway vehicle, a 2019 grey Ford Fusion which was involved in a vehicle crash on Mount Vernon Highway and Heard Ferry Road a short time later.

The suspects have been identified as 33 year old Tarris Young from Union City, GA and 23 year old Zacchaeus Tillman from Atlanta, GA. Both have been charged with the following:

Armed Robbery X2 Felony Fleeing & attempted to elude
Aggravated Assault w/intent to commit Armed Robbery X4 Reckless Driving
False Imprisonment X4 VGCSA Possession of Cocaine X2
Possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony X6
Possession of a firearm X6

Although this was a traumatic incident for the T-Mobile employees, none of them were physically injured as a result of this robbery. The occupants of the two vehicles that were struck by the getaway vehicle were not seriously injured. All the stolen property was recovered as well as the two firearms used in the robbery.
