SANDY SPRINGS, GA (April 2, 2021) – The Sandy Springs Police Department has made an arrest following a homicide investigation of a nine (9) month old infant killed by his babysitter.
On March 31, 2021, the Sandy Springs Police Department launched an investigation after a medical call was received regarding an unresponsive child inside an apartment on Willow Heights Drive in Sandy Springs. First responders rushed the child to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta where he was pronounced deceased by medical personnel. Detectives learned the child had been entrusted into the care of the suspect, 28 year old Dehaven Johnson. Further, an autopsy performed on the infant revealed he suffered severe injuries that resulted in his death during his care by the suspect.
The suspect, Dehaven Johnson has been taken into custody and has been charged with the following:
- Felony Murder
- Cruelty to Children, 1st degree
- Aggravated Battery
Due to the victim’s age, the Sandy Springs Police Department will not release his identity.
