Sandy Springs Police Department Operations are coordinated by two districts: North and South. Each district is commanded by district captains. The North District has four patrol zones and the South District has five. The patrol division is complemented by specialty units including Street Crimes Unit (SCU), Traffic Unit, Special Investigations Unit (SIU) and Criminal Investigations Division (CID). The department has several specialty vehicles and equipment including river rescue boats, traffic response vehicles (TRVs), a command vehicle, and a mobile crime scene response vehicle.

McNabb J CaptNorth District Commander

Captain James McNabb is currently assigned as the North District Commander. He was one of the original 86 officers who started with the Sandy Springs Police Department in July 2006. Captain McNabb began his law enforcement career with the Fulton County Police Department in 1999. His assignments have included Uniform Patrol, SWAT, Street Crimes, Community Relations, and Criminal Investigations. Captain McNabb received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Georgia. Captain McNabb is a recent graduate of the Southern Police Institute's Administrative Officer's Course from the University of Louisville.

Vik NSouth District Commander

Captain Norm Vik is the South District Commander. Captain Vik is a U.S. Army Veteran, where he served as a Military Police Sergeant. Captain Vik came to the Sandy Springs Police Department from the City of Hapeville Police Department in 2007. His assignments have included Uniform/Bike Patrol, S.W.A.T, Field Training, D.U.I. Task Force, Serious Injury/Fatality Investigator, Criminal Investigations, and Community Affairs. He obtained his Master of Science degree in Administration of Justice and Security from the University of Phoenix. He is also a graduate of the Southern Police Institute’s Administrative Officer Course from the University Of Louisville. Additionally, in 2021, Captain Vik was assigned as the North Metro SWAT team Commander.
